Film Screening: “HCB” by Sarah Moon
With his Leica camera, Henri Cartier-Bresson captured events both pivotal and prosaic in a career that spanned over half a century. A Celebration of the Life of Henri Cartier-Bresson was an event that showcased the achievement of this legendary photographer and co-founder of the Magnum photo agency.
The evening featured a premiere screening of acclaimed fashion photographer Sarah Moon’s documentary, Henri Cartier-Bresson: Point d’Interrogation. Made in 1994, it includes rare archival and contemporary footage of Cartier-Bresson at work as well as first-ever filmed interviews with the photographer.
Respected Canadian photo historian, author and photographer Michael Mitchell gave an introductory lecture prior to the screening. His talk was illustrated with examples drawn from Cartier-Bresson’s most influential monographs, including, The Decisive Moment and The Europeans.
